Another song

I know that many readers would find it strange to find a song made famous by the Carpenters on this blog or any blog. But if the song - and perhaps the well-remembered voice - can be laid aside.... is it not a love-song? And is it totally impermissible to have a love for the Lord that can find expression in such words?

I WON'T LAST A DAY WITHOUT YOU
Paul Williams & Roger Nichols

Day after day I must face a world of strangers
Where I don't belong, I'm not that strong.
It's nice to know that there's someone I can turn to
Who will always care, You're always there.

When there's no getting over that rainbow,
When my smallest of dreams won't come true -
I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won't last a day without You.

So many times when the city seems to be without a friendly face
A lonely place
It's nice to know that You'll be there if I need You
And You'll always smile, it's all worthwhile.

When there's no getting over that rainbow,
When my smallest of dreams won't come true -
I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won't last a day without You.

Touch me and I end up singing -
Troubles seem to up and disappear.
You touch me with the love You're bringing
I can't really lose when You're near.

If all my friends have forgotten half their promises
They're not unkind, just hard to find;
One look at You and I know that I could learn to live
Without the rest, I found the best.

When there's no getting over that rainbow,
When my smallest of dreams won't come true -
I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won't last a day without You.

The sentiments of a well-known hymn by Annie Sherwood Hawks are very similar :-

I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.

Refrain

I need Thee, O I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
O bless me now, my Savior,
I come to Thee.

I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power when Thou art nigh.

Refrain

I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide, or life is in vain.

Refrain

I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.

Refrain

I need Thee every hour, most Holy One;
O make me Thine indeed, Thou blessèd Son.

Refrain

May the Lord increase our love for Him, and our dependence upon Him.

Both lovely, David...I've used Bridge over Troubled Water with the youth here because it offers a way into Christ's self giving love on the cross. I think "baptising" popular culture can be a hugely rich and helpful thing to do...
Suspect that mad timetables may now preclude my visiting Vera - but please know that you and all your family will remain in my prayers after we move next week (and your blog is among my "bloglines" feeds, so don't abandon it altogether)
Blessings

Greetings David and Hallo from the glosbaptist mum Rosemary Hunt! I just wondered who had helped him remove the laurel!
May the Lord continue to uphold you on your pilgrim way.
